“88 Days in the Mother Lode: Mark Twain Finds His Voice” Documentary Debut in Tuolumne County

This documentary is about the 88 days Mark Twain spent in Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties in the winter of 1864-1865.  It will have its debut coinciding with 2nd Saturday Art Night at the Opera Hall in historic Downtown Sonora on February 14th.

This is a free event for the public and both children and adults are most welcome to attend.

This event is hosted by Tuolumne County Historical Society and has been sponsored by the Sonora Area Foundation and the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau.

Refreshments by the Tuolumne County Genealogical Society will be available for purchase.

Here is a breakdown of the events for the day:

  • 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Crafts and Story Time for kids. Kids are welcome to come dressed as Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, or Becky
  • 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Fine Art and Photo Show provided by Mother Lode Art Association and Sonora Photo Club
  • 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. – Book Signing – Sonora Yesterday and Today by author/photographer Chuck Holland (new Tuolumne County Historical Society publication)
  • 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. – Ukes ‘n’ More entertainment
  • 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. – Sound Extreme, audio/visual for premiere
  •  6:00 – 6:30 p.m. – Open seating for premiere (Columbia College American Literature class extra credit)
  • 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. – John C. Brown – PowerPoint about making this documentary
  • 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Premiere of documentary – 88 Days in the Mother Lode, Mark Twain Finds His Voice produced by This ‘n That Films
